Consultant Eye Surgeon

A consultant ophthalmologist (Mr Jeremy Hoffman) with brown hair, wearing a light pink dress shirt and blue trousers, standing with arms crossed in front of a wall at Visio Health.

Mr Jeremy Hoffman is a Consultant Eye Surgeon in Buckinghamshire with specialist expertise in corneal and ocular surface disease, cataract surgery, and refractive surgery. He combines internationally recognised clinical experience with a calm, patient-centred approach to care, helping people with a wide range of eye conditions achieve better comfort, clearer vision, and confident outcomes.

Clinical Practice

Mr Hoffman trained in ophthalmology at leading teaching hospitals in London, including Moorfields Eye Hospital, The Western Eye Hospital (Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust), and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. He completed advanced fellowship training in corneal, external eye, and refractive surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

He offers private consultations and treatment across the Chilterns region and leads the Corneal and Emergency Eye Diseases Service at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

His clinical practice focuses on:

  • Corneal and ocular surface disease

  • Cataract surgery tailored to visual goals

  • Refractive surgery and vision enhancement

  • Dry eye and blepharitis management

  • Treatment of pterygium and other surface conditions

  • Specialist care for complex corneal problems such as keratoconus and infection

Training, Research, and Teaching

Alongside clinical work, Mr Hoffman is active in international ophthalmology research and postgraduate teaching. He has led research into corneal infection and ocular surface disease, including clinical trials and global collaborations that inform his practice and improve patient care.

He has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals and regularly presents research internationally.

From straightforward conditions to more complex surgical and surface disease care, Mr Hoffman aims to deliver the highest standard of eye care with empathy and clarity.

What People Are Saying

  • The results were excellent. Great service and efficiencies.

    — K.W., Former Patient

  • Dr Hoffman is very professional and provides a great service. He is very calm and made sure I felt informed at every step of the process and at each of my appointments

    — Verified Patient

  • I was very fortunate to be treated by Consultant Jeremy Hoffman. He made time to answer all my questions, had a wonderful manner and is clearly one of the most qualified and expert specialists in this field.

    — Verified Patient

  • Much of my research has focused on improving the diagnosis and treatment of infections of the cornea (the clear surface at the front of the eye). These conditions, particularly fungal keratitis, can cause severe vision loss and are most challenging in parts of the world where access to specialist eye care is limited.

I have worked closely with international teams in Nepal and East Africa to understand how these infections are managed in real-world clinical settings, and to improve outcomes through practical, evidence-based approaches. This work has included leading a clinical trial comparing commonly used antifungal eye drops, as well as evaluating how different diagnostic tools (such as microscopy, imaging, and laboratory tests) perform in everyday practice.

In the UK, I have also contributed to research tracking rarer corneal infections, including Acanthamoeba keratitis, and to national and international efforts aimed at reducing avoidable blindness.

Alongside my clinical practice, I continue to be involved in research and postgraduate teaching through my role at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, where I help train the next generation of eye health professionals.

In the UK, I’ve also helped to track the incidence of rarer eye infections like Acanthamoeba keratitis, and contributed to national and global efforts to reduce avoidable blindness. I continue to be involved in research and teaching through my role at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, where I help train the next generation of eye health professionals.

  • Outside of clinical practice, I have a longstanding interest in travel, expeditions, and the outdoors. I enjoy scuba diving, skiing, and tennis, and have a particular enthusiasm for off-road driving and restoring classic Land Rovers. These pursuits provide a welcome balance to clinical life and often go hand-in-hand with another passion of mine, photography.

Whether exploring remote landscapes or capturing everyday moments, I find these experiences grounding and creatively stimulating.

I live in Buckinghamshire with my wife, children, and our energetic dog, and we make the most of time outdoors in the Chiltern Hills whenever we can.
